After walking

If you have time, soak your feet in warm water for 15-20 minutes. Afterwards, be sure to dry your feet thoroughly, particularly between the toes. Then dust them with baby powder, which is easy to obtain if you've forgotten it at home. It has the advantage of being very absorbant.

For even more relaxation, prepare yourself a slightly hotter foot bath and infuse two teabags in the water for 5 minutes. No longer, unless you want to dye your feet!

Walking barefoot

Our feet are enclosed in shoes most of the time. Walk barefoot as much as possible. It provides gentle gymnastics for your arches. If you can, walk barefoot in the dew-covered morning grass. It's fabulous and reinvigorates not only your feet, but your whole body.

Careful: walking barefoot can lead to athlete's foot, particularly in bathrooms (when travelling) and along public pools.

Our feet and the sea

During vacations on the seashore, take long barefoot strolls through the sand: it provides a natural exfoliation and the movement imposed on your feet while walking is excellent exercise, leaving you with a great feeling of well-being.

On the other hand, some people develop an allergy to sea water and their feet swell up. In this case, lie on your back without a pillow, your legs elevated from the knees with cushions so they're higher than your head. Maintain this position for 15 minutes or  the length of a nap. You can even prevent certain problems by staying in this position overnight.

Our feet and the sun

The tops of our feet are very sensitive - if you're in the sun for a long time, stick your feet into the cool sand to protect them as soon as you feel them reddening. This is all the more important in Peru and Uruguay where the sun beats down at a direct and powerful angle.

If, despite precautions, you end up with sunburn, use the miracle cure of the islanders: a slice of tomato held in place for 5 minutes. Extraordinary!
