Iris Noir is a perfume of singular grace and troubling femininity, made of unrefined iris butter, one of the rarest and most precious raw ingredients used in perfume making. Rich in multiple facets and contrasts, the iris fragrance is both delicate and intense, sweet and profound, vibrant and sophisticated. Its fragrance, virtually unclassifiable, runs through all the olfactory octaves with floral, powdery and woody notes. With Iris Noir, the Secrets d'Essences collection is enriched with a new chapter, the third, devoted to the most secret of floral notes, the iris.

The iris is an exceptional raw ingredient. It is in its roots, and not in its petals, that the iris flower hides its smelling substance. It takes three years for the plant to attain maturity. Then, during many long months, its roots are dissected, crushed, soaked, wringed out and distilled, to finally extract the iris butter. Almost 555 kilos of roots are required to extract 1 kilo of unrefined iris butter, which in turn, releases its olfactive treasures. Extracting the butter is a long and complex process, which explains why it is so valuable.

From the floral woody spicy olfactive family, Iris Noir is a concentrate of mystery, a fascinating aura. As it opens, the spicy notes of coriander and the fresh citrus tang of bergamot provide vibrant, dazzling sensations.

At its heart, the harmonious accord of the floral, powdery and woody facets of the iris reveals its intriguing, elusive nature while ambrette seed supplies a fruity tone. It is the Iris Pallida Florentina, or Florentine Iris, grown in the rocky, sunbaked soil of Italy, that was chosen by the perfumers to grace this distinctive juice. At the base, the woody inflexions of the iris are prolonged with touches of patchouli and the supple sweetness of Tonka bean.
