Holiday 2012 Make-up > 2. The Eyes

All about make-up > Holiday Make-up > The eyes

This year experience the enchantment of a decadent city holiday where days are filled with holiday shopping and nights with cocktail parties and galas. As you move from townhouse to penthouse, candlelit windows sparkle and shimmer off of satin draped fabrics and holiday lights stand out in bold celebration of the season.

No one wants a makeup meltdown. To keep your face looking fresh and at its best, there are a few simple rules to follow.

Express your fashionista flair and wake up the boldness within you explains Max Herlant, make-up artist for Yves Rocher. The latest runway trends of 2012-2013 showed signs of eccentricity. At the place of honor, the timeless smoky eye for a truly feline look but also with lots of gradation of magnetic colours in blue-green shades.”

Try the perfect Point Plus from Cover Girl. The classic liner with blending power. For a defined look, draw a precise line; for a smoky look, softly smudge with the plush blender tip.

Open your eyes

Choose a mascara that can thick, curve and lenght all in one.
If you have round eyes, apply mascara only on your upper lashes.

To open your eyes, wiggle the mascara wand left to right at the base of your lashes. Mascara that is placed near the roots of the lash provides the greatest amount of “length”. Then pull the mascara wand through your lashes, “wiggling” it a little as you go. This wiggling motion is important — it acts to separate your lashes.

Don't forget your eyebrow

Groom brows with comb. If you need to correct the line, work the eyebrow with two shades of pencil.

Hair is made up of different colours, explains Max Herlant, so to recreate a natural eyebrow, I work with two pencils, a light shade and a slighter darker one.

I use light, feathery strokes with each pencil and then blend the two shades together.

Inspired by the Odyssey eye quarter mineral palette, Clarins explains how to create a festive look: Apply the copper gold shade to the eyelid then the brown shade to the outer eye corner and underneath lower lashes. Follow with the taupe-bronze shade in the eye crease then blend slightly upwards toward the brow line to create a halo of colour. Finally, brighten and create more open-looking eyes with a touch of beige under the eyebrows.
