2009 - Declaring Indigo Lancôme Fall 2009 Make-up Collection

All about make-up > Declaring Indigo
Aaron De Mey launches his glorious make-up revolution, a powerful indigo color statement punctuated with gold and red splendor.

Freedom, femininity, irreverence…
Declaring Indigo is Aaron De Mey’s celebratory homage to freedom and impertinence à la francaise, conveyed through a triumphal color statement which echoes the parisian coat of  arms hues.

His leitmotif: French Irreverence, the quintessential embodiment of the legendary Parisian free spirit, a skilful blend of audacity, chic style and panache. A free-thinking designer and a visionary make-up artist, Aaron De Mey proclaims his principles loud and clear: “Only by freeing ourselves from the rules and transcending the barriers can we truly innovate. This search for freedom of vision is what drives me.”

Passionate, rebellious, high-spirited, Aaron De Mey’s treasured icons of French Irreverence were experts at leading their generations into the future thanks to their brilliance and their impertinence: Olympe de Gouges, the author of Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen; Simone de Beauvoir, the feminist intellectual changing the world from her seat in the Café de Flore; Josephine Baker, the darling of the music-halls and symbol of women’s emancipation, American of birth but French of heart; and of course Brigitte Bardot, both free and so provocative, who revolutionized contemporary morality in Roger Vadim’s film “And God created women”, who danced barefoot on tables surrounded by enamored men without a second thought, a whirlwind of French sensuality…

With Declaring Indigo, Aaron De Mey pays homage to these revolutionary trail-blazers  his heroine is an avant-gardist in stilettos, an elegant beauty who challenges all the rules, a sensual, impertinent Parisian vision; but in whom each woman can recognize herself. A  triumphant icon of freedom, feminine to the very core.

Declaring Indigo is a manifesto. A vision bursting with energy. An expression of blue-indigo, launched centre-stage as this season’s new black by Aaron De Mey. In superbly chic style, Indigo is complemented by flecks of golden light and touches of matte, vibrant red. A triumphant color statement that puts an impertinent twist on Parisian heraldry colors.

“My favorite colors are pure, saturated, powerful shades that work fabulously
all on their own. The colors I chose for the collection, indigo and red, are intense, primary colors, emblems of Paris and the French Revolution. I will always remain faithful to the color gold for its brilliant shine and ability to bring an elegant, illuminating touch to make-up.” Aaron De Mey.

As the collection’s main tenet, this powerful color statement underpins this season’s look: eyes stunningly magnfied with deep indigo, lips ablaze with matte red, the complexion sublimely enhanced with iridescent gold and a boldly reinterpreted French manicure…
Simply IRREVERENT. Daringly REVOLUTIONARY.!

Twisted, intensified, reinvented… Eyes experience an Indigo revolution
with La Palette Liberté
The Declaring Indigo star eye palette gives the color codes of Parisian heraldry an all-new twist. Aaron De Mey daringly mixes two royal indigos (one metallic, the other twinkling with golden sparkles) with two ancient precious golds, ranging from the most pure through to bronze…
A declaration of Parisian irreverence encapsulated in a white gold case adorned with a modern rose motif, a dual reference to both the flowers of the Parisian coat of arms and the revered Lancôme emblem.

For the less adventurous, the Palette Liberté is also available in a black and gold version: the Or Liberté fusion, a golden trio ranging from ultra-white, to bronze, to pure gold, unveiled in a new, gold-shimmering reinterpretation of Aaron De Mey’s famous Piha Black (Piha Gold Sparkle). With this unique synthesis, he creates a precious smoky eye that places every shade of gold centre-stage…

Irreverent techniques by Aaron
“For an indigo reinvention of the SMOKY EYE, I start by defining the base of the lashes with Ink Art Liner. I then intensify the outer corners and upper lid with the Indigo Paris Crayon Khôl, which I blend with an eye shadow in Metallic Indigo Paris, my new black. I round off the effect by emphasizing the brow arch with a touch of Pure Gold eye shadow, which I amp up even further with a hint of Color Fever Gloss Pure Gold. If you want to create an even more dramatic result, the Palette Liberté shadows can also be used wet - simply dampen the liner brush and apply. I complete the look with a top coat of Virtuôse Royal Gold.

For a more natural, more gold-inspired variation, I begin by lighting up the eyes with the Pure Gold shade from Palette Liberté applied over the entire lid, followed by a sweep of Crayon Khôl Indigo Paris along the lash line. I then add a sheer veil of indigo eye shadow, blending upwards towards the brow arch. I finish by emphasizing the lashes with several coats of Virtuôse Royal Gold top coat mascara, followed by a hint of Color Fever Gloss in Pure Gold along the base of the lower lashes.”

Oridescence... Rose Liberté
The legendary rose, Lancôme’s cherished emblem, adorns Rose Liberté powder as a beautifully swirled and elegant modern rose pattern. Gently draping a sublime, delicate veil of light over every face shade, the complexion appears enhanced with a sparkling, champagne-like iridescence. This universal powder unifies the complexion and brings out skin’s beauty in a shimmer of iridescent gold: This is “goldescence”.

Techniques by Aaron
“For a smooth, radiant and flawless complexion, I unify the complexion using Photogenic Lumessence Foundation to bathe skin in a veil of light. This season, opt for a shade lighter than your natural skin tone, to brighten your complexion and create a refined, faultless base. I then like to use Rose Liberté to highlight the facial contours with touches of light: the bridge of the nose, the cheekbones, the forehead... It is a great way to sculp the face and enhance natural features. For a more sophisticated look, I do the same using Pure Gold from Palette Liberté. I also like to use the Color Fever Matte lipstick as a blush, dotting a few touches over the cheekbones, before blending with my fingertips to bring out an irresistible flush.”

Color Fever Matte
Impassioned by pure, powerful pigments, Aaron De Mey dreamed of creating a matte, saturated, but ultimately radiant color for lips. For the very first time, Research Laboratories have attained the true feat of a matte result that preserves the sensorial texture of Color Fever. The result: the first high-comfort gliding matte with jojoba oil, concentrated in saturated pigments and enriched with a velvety-soft complex, for an utterly vibrant color and texture result.

Color Fever Gloss
Lancôme’s stunning iconic gloss, reinvented with two brand new shades : Pure Gold, to define the lips with a beautiful golden hue, and Aaron’s Red, a fully-transparent crimson red… Two absolute musts: apply solo for a more nude-looking mouth, or as a top coat to the centre of the lips over a Color Fever Matte lipstick, to enhance lip volume with stunningly sensual shine.

Techniques by Aaron
I designed three fiery, ultra-sexy reds either to wear alone, showing off their pure matte colors, or to wear under a top coat for a plethora of different effects: a powdered veil of golden eye shadow for a shimmering look; a touch of ultra-shine Color Fever Gloss Pure Gold to the centre of the lips, to accentuate volume over a vivacious matte canvas. The ultimate pure seduction tip: highlight these flaming reds with a Crayon Khôl Pure Gold line over the Cupid’s bow…

To give it a modern, more natural-looking twist, apply to the centre of your lips with your fingertips, blending out towards the corners for a bitten-lip effect, or dab on a little Color Fever Gloss Pure Gold over the red, in the very entre of your lips, for an incredibly sensual pout. For an even more sophisticated look, why not add a veil of Pure Gold eye shadow, to ensure a sumptuously rich, velvety-soft finish.”

French Revolution Manucure
With Declaring Indigo, Aaron De Mey revolutionizes the French Manucure and redesigns Lancôme’s Le Vernis in two cult new shades, Indigo Paris and Pure Gold.

This duo brings even the most DARING looks to life: indigo nails, top-coated with golden tips or moons. The monochrome version: all-indigo or sparkling nails, as if dipped in pure gold…

A must: match the indigo and gold French Revolution Manicure to eyes sculpted with the Palette Liberté Bleu Royauté and gold French Revolution Manicure to flamboyant lips emblazoned with Color Fever Matte.
