Cracked feet

All about feet > Problem > Cracked feet

Dry and rigid, the layer of dead skin on feet can eventually crack.
Cracked skin is caused by fissuring of the stiff outer layer of dead, dry skin. If feet get too dry, calluses form on the heels and soles. Under the effects of mechanical forces such as body weight and rubbing, these areas of stiffened skin can fissure and crack. If not treated, these cracks persist and worsen under the influence of external aggressors.

Did you know...

Did you know… that nine out of ten women wear shoes that are too small for their feet?
Consequently, women are 4 times more likely to develop foot problems than men (although men are also prone to foot problems, but are less likely to use foot care products.)

Did you know… that wearing the right shoe plays an important role in maintaining healthy feet?
Running puts 68 tons of pressure per kilometer on your feet. Wearing a 3-inch heel puts 7 times more stress on the forefoot than does wearing a 1-inch heel. Be sure to wear a proper running shoe when engaging in sports, try varying the size of your high heels and avoid wearing heels higher than 2 1/4 inches for prolonged periods of time.
