All about feet > Problem > Dry feet
Rough, cracked skin: the skin on the feet lacks lipids.
Feet are naturally the driest area of the body, with nine times fewer lipids than the rest of the body. Moreover, age and external aggressors cause the skin on the feet to lose lipids. In Canada, changing seasons mean moving from dry indoor heating to cold outdoors, and fluctuating between going barefoot and wearing thick boots. All of these factors affect the foot's composition.
Did you know… that it is important to towel dry your feet?
Be sure to dry your feet properly, especially between the toes, after every washing. When water dries at the skin's surface, it draws from the lower epidermal layers outwards and increases dehydration. Long, hot baths also increase skin permeability and dehydration.
Did you know… that it is best not to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row?
Allowing shoes adequate time to dry can prevent recurrent rubbing against shoes. Friction intensifies dryness by increasing the thickness of the foot's skin and altering its protective hydrolipid layer.
